Embedding Icons Drew Marsh
Embedding Icons
Drew Marsh created a cool sample in response to a thread on the DOTNET-WINFORMS list.
The thread started with a question about embedding Icons via the command line. Here is some code that worked for me: IconResources.zip
It demonstrates two ways to load Icon resources in .NET. The first loads an Icon embedded with the /resource switch. The second uses ExtractIconEx to extract an Icon embedded with the /win32icon switch. See the comments for more info.

But as Simon Fell points out, ".NET Alerts partners require a [$10,000] Passport license." Microsoft also warns, "Space is limited." Consider this a business-prevention deal. Strangers need not apply. You can bet that those partners whom Microsoft wants as early adopters of .NET alerts aren't paying a dime.
I wouldn't go that far. After all ComponentSource is using them to notify you about alerts to their forums. That is what got me looking into the pricing again. I figured if they can afford it for that, it can't be too expensive ;-)
In retrospect I suppose they decided to license Passport first. Then maybe they decided to take advantage of .NET Alerts for a little extra each month...

Read the small print
Read the small print
Simon says:
read the small print, you have to have a Passport license to be able to send .NET Alerts, and thats still $10K/year.
Once again Simon has excellent advice. I knew I should have followed this link ;-)
But I still really like .NET Alerts. They just aren't useful right now because they don't alert me about anything I care about.
